Northside is the epicenter of the Cincinnati Tacosphere. Fact. You have Tacocracy, the hard-to-pronounce, anti-establishment taco joint, that fills their tacos with potatoes and very un-taco-like fillings, surrounded by old airplane doodads in an old goth bar. Then, you have Django Western Taco, with its cowboy flair, serving either individual or family-style tacos and a [...] . . . → Read More: wine me, dine me: Review: Barrio Tequileria

Bakersfield OTR 1214 Vine St. Over-the-Rhine Tel: 513-579-0446 www.bakersfieldotr.com We decided to drop by Bakersfield OTR recently to sample their Mexican-influenced street-fare tacos, two of which are vegetarian-friendly. The restaurant is smack in the middle of the busy, buzzy Gateway Quarter, housed in a lovingly refurbished brick building next to Lavomatic Cafe. Bakersfield OTR The restaurant focuses on tacos, tequila, and whiskey, with special emphasis on Kentucky bourbons. As much as we love our bourbon, the gloriously fine weather begged for something light and fruity, so I opted for a sangria, and it didn’t disappoint. Sangria served in a Mason (Read more...)

As the adorable little girl handed me a taco out of the window of her family’s food truck, I was conflicted. As delicious as it looked, and as endearing as her smile was, we had just spent the last few days stuffing ourselves, and the last hour or so o… . . . → Read More: Cincinnati Nomerati: Experience Columbus; Taco Truck Tour:

Navigating this whole “food blogging” thing can, even for someone who’s been doing it for four years, be difficult. There’s a great article I read the other day on the history of food writing, as well as the impact of bloggers on food writing. Some of it I agreed with, and some of it I [...] . . . → Read More: wine me, dine me: Review: Bakersfield OTR

I think my favorite exchange of the evening was Maureen pointing to the taco on her plate and the following conversation with our server. “I mean, that’s smut, right? Definitely smut. I know smut when I see it!” She was, of course, referring to the huitlacoche filling of her taco as she and our server attempted to identify it.Huitlacoche, also known as “corn smut” or “Mexican truffles,” doesn’t sound that appetizing, but it’s actually something you shouldn’t pass up. We were skeptical when we first tried it at La Mexicana in Newport, but Kenji from Serious Eats convinced us when (Read more...)
