Good deed for the day

Today I give you a little story that happened two Saturdays ago. My wife and I were going out to dinner and we had to stop by Target to return some things. Of course we had to get more things too (I did not know that part) but that's another story. Once we were done shopping we walked out to the parking lot. As we got into the truck I noticed the vehicle next to us, an astro van, and a mother trying to handle two kids. One kid in the back with the door open (passenger side) with the Mom back there helping. Then there was the roughly 18 month old sitting in the drivers seat playing with the steering wheel - passenger door open. Cute of course but not with the engine running. I started the truck and sat there for a second half watching. Now usually my wife would have asked what's going on since I just didn't back out and go. She sat there though not knowing what I was doing but that I must have my reason. I then rolled down my window and it begins.

As I lower the window I say to the lady in a calm but loud voice "Mam he's going for the gear shift". At that moment the lady reacts and the toddler puts the van in drive. Luckily no one was in front of them in the next spot as the lurch forward. She makes it from the back outside of the van to the front reaching across the passenger seat and gets the gear shift. Only she gets it in reverse. Another lurch back and she gets it in drive (lurch again) then park. That van moved maybe a couple feet each way. In the end she gets it stopped and all is well, we saved the day.

We then backed out of the parking spot to the sounds of her telling the toddler, using all three of his names of course, how bad he was. Of course the lady should have never left him alone in the front seat like that in the first place.
