Good deed for the day
Submitted by Jason on Tue, 07/29/2008 - 21:13.Today I give you a little story that happened two Saturdays ago. My wife and I were going out to dinner and we had to stop by Target to return some things. Of course we had to get more things too (I did not know that part) but that's another story. Once we were done shopping we walked out to the parking lot. As we got into the truck I noticed the vehicle next to us, an astro van, and a mother trying to handle two kids. One kid in the back with the door open (passenger side) with the Mom back there helping. Then there was the roughly 18 month old sitting in the drivers seat playing with the steering wheel - passenger door open. Cute of course but not with the engine running. I started the truck and sat there for a second half watching. Now usually my wife would have asked what's going on since I just didn't back out and go. She sat there though not knowing what I was doing but that I must have my reason. I then rolled down my window and it begins. read more »
The clean up continues
Submitted by Jason on Mon, 07/28/2008 - 22:15.The playfield is now cleaned and polished. It still has the swirl marks but it is clean and shiny. It will be a players machine. Maybe one day I'll come across a NOS playfield and make it really sharp. The cabinet is another matter still though. It has some scuff marks on it and any really scrubbing removes paint so that's out. I have paint coming that should match the cabinet and the playfield so I'm hoping to improve it a little.
Now I just have to figure out how to do touch ups on the playfield. That's the scary part as I don't have a lot of artistic talent. I'm going to give it my best shot though. I did find a neat trick I may try someday. You can use a see through scanner to scan parts of the playfield. Then fix the pictures up on the computer and make decals or maybe stencils with them. Not sure how well it works but I'd bet it may just work. read more »
Pac-Man Pinball update
Submitted by Jason on Thu, 07/24/2008 - 23:31.I have torn into the Mr & Mrs Pac-Man pinball game taking nearly everything off of the playfield that I can. Pictures can be found here of what I did before and after. The playfield is chewed up pretty bad with ball swirls but I have did some cleaning that has helped. I'll get pics of that work up later in the gallery. read more »
Hey I did that once. Then again I've tried nearly everything with this site.
Submitted by Jason on Tue, 07/22/2008 - 20:26.I found this site today cinplify.com. It's a news site for Cincinnati news sort of like I use to run here on WKRP.com. Submit articles and vote them up. It looks like it's running the same software just done a whole heck of a lot better than what I attempted. I recognize the icons but of course it could just look like one of the themes I know for that software. So see I often set trends without knowing it and they probably don't know it either; the wayback machine has the proof of course.
The Cincinnati Blog linked today to an article about Cincinnati's rich blog land scape. It's worth the read. Maybe one day I'll get a mention but it's not likely for that. Maybe if I get my act together I'll get the aggregiation of blogs working the way I want and get some type of mention... read more »
Interesting
Submitted by Jason on Sat, 07/19/2008 - 11:22.Since adding the "Blogs in Cincinnati" section above I have read some pretty interesting stuff. The blogs I've found so far generally mention Cincinnati but not always. That doesn't matter really as it's really about blogs in Cincinnati and not blogs about Cincinnati, at least in the entirety.
I think it's going good. I'll keep searching for more and adding them bit by bit.
What a concept: No gas needed for this car
Submitted by Jason on Sun, 07/13/2008 - 10:45.I hope he can make something of this one day. I use to work for a company that was in one of his buildings and he talked about it from time to time.
Honestly I think it would be a hard sell even now days with gas prices being so high. It's just infrastructure would be costly and time to deploy it, for the rail part of it.Maybe I'll right more on my thoughts about alternative fuels later.
Anyway click on the read more button to read the full story.
I will make it legal
Submitted by Jason on Fri, 07/11/2008 - 22:57.We have the fourth amendment of the US Constitution getting trampled on by Congress and the President with a new bill. You know the whole FISA thing with warrantless wiretapping of US citizens and the telco's playing along with them. I understand it's for the whole "war on terror" but there is a difference. We play by the rules and those rules are there for a reason - we are better than them.
It's like this:
For my part of playing the Star Wars geek I will use the following from the Phantom Menance:
Darth Sidious: Viceroy, I don't want to see this stunted slime in my sight again. This turn of events is unfortunate. We must accelerate our plans. Begin landing your troops.
Nute Gunray: Ah, my lord, is that... legal?
Darth Sidious: I will make it legal. read more »
Added another pinball machine
Submitted by Jason on Wed, 07/09/2008 - 23:50.I've added a fourth pinball machine to my collection. This time around it's a Mr & Mrs Pac-man. It's a bit cheesey and it is an older pin but I remember it from the good old days in the arcade. At worse this is a machine I'll keep for a while and then sell off later on. It's not in the mint condition but I am going to try and do my best to get it looking good. It has some playfield wear and a lot of ball marks. Remember folks if you have a pinball machine check that ball once in a while to make sure it's in good shape. In a quick test using some polish on the playfield has helped the ball marks but I'm not expecting miracles it is a 28 year old machine after all. read more »
Finally back on the path
Submitted by Jason on Mon, 07/07/2008 - 20:30.Over the years I have tried many times to make this site something without really making it something. In the past I relied on the content management system thinking that it made the site. Well it doesn't it's what I do with it. So with that in mind I'm starting down the path I should have been on.
The front page will be more about blogging and articles. The videos are once again shoved to a second page with only a list of links on the front page. You'll also notice there's a Blogs in Cincinnati section up top now. That's an RSS feed of a couple blogs I found primarily dealing about Cincinnati. If you have a blog and want it added to the lineup just drop a note with your sites link and I'll consider it for addition. If you have a site but it's not really a blog send it along anyway and describe your site. It may just find it's way here on the site. I expect to grow the whole Cincinnati content idea as time goes on. read more »
