Not you too Frisch's

Tonight I went to dinner at Frisch's and we were asked a question that one would never expect to hear from the waitress. "So have you ever eaten at Frisch's before?" The waitress laughed at the "uh yeah all the time" and responded with they're making us say it.Come on Frisch's that's just plain silly you've been around since 1946.  I think we've figured out how to order from your menu by now.

The guy on the corner part 2

Well I did it.  I move about as fast as I post on this blog, hey things are busy.  I bought a copy of Street Vibes.  The person I bought the paper from I had seen standing there on the corner of 4th and Main for a few weeks.  He was always quiet and just stood there selling the paper.  I didn't notice too many people buying the paper from him before but he must have some traffic standing there.  Friday it was nice out and after eating lunch I took a walk.  I also put my money where my mouth is. The guy on the corner

In Cincinnati we have guys on the corner asking for money.  Usually they sit on the cold concrete, some at least sit on a bucket, while others are on a bench.  Some are regulars and some are not.  There are two that I see regularly one of which has sat in the same spot for at least 3 years now on nearly a daily basis.  The other is more social and is usually seen all over the south side of downtown.  I don't know their names and honestly I've never given them money.  I want to help but I don't know how, beyond what I already do with the taxes I pay that fund the many programs that this area has.  I worry that any handout would just be used to feed an addiction and my help really is only help for that fleeting moment.  I'm not c Read more »

Still winter, dang ground hog

Another weekend is closing in and another threat of snow.  At least this time schools haven't closed in advance just yet.  Though Ft Mitchell declared a snow emergency at 2:45 on Thursday.  That's a bit jumpy I think.  Either that or they just wanted to make sure they could potentially collect some tow fees from emergency snow route parking in advance of the storm.  That's just a guess of course.  Still I think it's silly to do it that far in advance. So tomorrow we will all await the arrival of the snow.  At least it will give us some water cooler talk.

Cusp of snow

The coming weekend and the threat of snow to the south brings up part two to my snow thread.

Back in 1978 and 1979 we had blizzards.  They were pretty bad, I remember being stuck in the house for like a week.  It was also bitter cold and we all moved into the room where the fireplace was to keep warm.  Upstairs was just too darn cold.  Trains were stopped by the snow and I remember once we could get out seeing some idiot out on Acton lake with his car doing donuts.  Yeah that's cold but still the lake isn't that deep unless they dredged it again recently. A touch of snow

It was nice to see Cincinnati react to the snow in a way that makes me think people have seen it before.  Of course that didn't stop some schools from closing.  Kentucky is scared to death of even a hint of snow, what with all the hills it's understandable but it is a bit crazy.  Now we await for the next onslaught is on it's way, just wait for the hype once the models settle down.  Get that bread early!  More on that later this week.

Credit Card Inactivity fee's

An interesting thing I had totally missed.  Some banks have begun to charge inactivity fees for cards that you don't use.  Fifth Third is one of them as last night I received a $19 bill in the mail for it.  Then after searching for "credit card inactivity fee"  I found this is old news.
