Still winter, dang ground hog

Another weekend is closing in and another threat of snow.  At least this time schools haven't closed in advance just yet.  Though Ft Mitchell declared a snow emergency at 2:45 on Thursday.  That's a bit jumpy I think.  Either that or they just wanted to make sure they could potentially collect some tow fees from emergency snow route parking in advance of the storm.  That's just a guess of course.  Still I think it's silly to do it that far in advance. So tomorrow we will all await the arrival of the snow.  At least it will give us some water cooler talk.

Cusp of snow

The coming weekend and the threat of snow to the south brings up part two to my snow thread.

Back in 1978 and 1979 we had blizzards.  They were pretty bad, I remember being stuck in the house for like a week.  It was also bitter cold and we all moved into the room where the fireplace was to keep warm.  Upstairs was just too darn cold.  Trains were stopped by the snow and I remember once we could get out seeing some idiot out on Acton lake with his car doing donuts.  Yeah that's cold but still the lake isn't that deep unless they dredged it again recently. A touch of snow

It was nice to see Cincinnati react to the snow in a way that makes me think people have seen it before.  Of course that didn't stop some schools from closing.  Kentucky is scared to death of even a hint of snow, what with all the hills it's understandable but it is a bit crazy.  Now we await for the next onslaught is on it's way, just wait for the hype once the models settle down.  Get that bread early!  More on that later this week.

The Veggie Option (again)

A while back in the previous version of this site I did a small post on The Veggie Option and their review of Five Guys. Read more »

Credit Card Inactivity fee's

An interesting thing I had totally missed.  Some banks have begun to charge inactivity fees for cards that you don't use.  Fifth Third is one of them as last night I received a $19 bill in the mail for it.  Then after searching for "credit card inactivity fee"  I found this is old news. User registration open

User registration is now open.  Bit by bit I'm getting the site moving along.  User blogs are in the works. As well as other things.

Registration isn't necessary to post comments.  Many layers of spam filtering have been turned on so the junk should hopefully be kept at bay.Two posts in one day.  Wow.

Update your Internet Explorer 8

Microsoft has released the IE8 security patch.  You'll probably see it come in automatically tonight; surprise overnight reboot is what you'll experience probably.  I'd just be safe and do it now with Start->Windows Update and go through the prompts.  It's a fast update and does require a reboot.

Still don't forget to keep the anti virus software up to date.  If you don't have any get it.  AVG is a free option.

Fun times with Internet Explorer

As you probably heard by now Google and China are in a fight and it looks like Internet Explorer has another security problem. Well not really looks like, it does. Should you drop IE? That's a bit too much but to be safe I would switch till it's fixed. Personally I use FireFox as much as possible. It works with a large majority of sites and security problems are fixed very quickly with no waiting around for that magic patch Tuesday. Read more »

Once again change is upon the site

Since the move to the homegrown content management system this site has suffered. It worked but it wasn't right or the best by web standards. So I've moved to a system that should offer me better flexibility and less hassle of writing my own. If you've ever tried to write your own CMS you'd understand it's not easy.

So here I am again. I feel like this is Babylon 5 with the "Shadows" coming by every so often and knocking down the anthill. The SciFi geeks out there will get that reference. Except this time it's not really knocking anything down because I barely did anything before. Read more »
